HRH Oba James Obafemi Saliu
HRH Oba James Obafemi Saliu has occupied the throne of the Ologere of Ogere since 2023. As Kankanbiina III and Arole Olipakala, he heads Ogere's traditional institution and works with the Ologere-in-Council on heritage, peace, security and community development. An industrialist before ascending the throne, he is Chairman of Avalon Industrial Park Limited. His reign has seen the establishment of the purpose-built Aafin Ologere and Lipakala Cultural Centre, alongside support for security and emergency-response infrastructure, community welfare and local development initiatives.
Late Oba Oladele Moshood Ogunbade, JP
Oba Oladele Moshood Ogunbade, Oyegunsen Agbejoye II, was installed on 3 December 1983 and reigned for more than 38 years until his death in April 2022. Before ascending the throne, he worked in the corporate sector, including as a Marketing Manager with the Nigerian Tobacco Company. His long reign spanned significant periods of social and structural development in Ogere and is remembered for maintaining continuity in traditional leadership, fostering inclusiveness, and advancing the town.
Late Oba Alfred Obafuwa Babington-Ashaye, JP
Oba Alfred Obafuwa Babington-Ashaye, Legunsen III, reigned as Ologere of Ogere from 1945 until he died in 1982. He was the first educated Ologere and was widely regarded as an influential and well-connected monarch. His relationships and standing increased the visibility of Ogere beyond the town, while many indigenes benefited from the influence and access associated with his reign. He is also remembered for his historic interaction with Queen Elizabeth during her visit to Remoland.
Late Oba Fabayo Adifagbola
Oba Fabayo Adifagbola, Oyefusi-Oregunsen II, reigned as Ologere of Ogere from 1931 to 1945. His reign forms an important part of the modern succession of the Ologere stool and the continuity of Ogere's traditional leadership during the early twentieth century.
Late Oba Adelana Osifayo
Oba Adelana Osifayo was the first Ologere after the community moved from Agbele to its present settlement, Ogere. He had previously been the third Oba to reign at Agbele and was on the throne at the time of the resettlement. His reign therefore represents an important transition between the ancestral settlement at Agbele and the modern traditional institution of Ogere.
Business, Enterprise and Professional Leadership
Oloola Olabode Ogunlana, OON
Oloola Olabode Ogunlana is a distinguished figure in Nigerian insurance whose career has spanned underwriting, broking, teaching and risk management. He served as the first Nigerian Managing Director of the National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria and was an underwriter at Lloyd's of London for 10 years. In 1978, he established Standard Chartered Insurance Brokers, now SCIB Nigeria & Co. Ltd., and later served as President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria. In Ogere, he established the Training and Conference Centre, now Ogere Resort, which has created jobs and significantly enhanced the town's visibility as a hospitality and conference destination.
Late Sir Dr Olatunde Aiyedun Agbato, KJW (1950 - 2021)
Sir Dr Olatunde Aiyedun Agbato trained as a veterinary doctor at the University of Ibadan and later earned an MBA from the University of Lagos. With his wife, Dame Olufunmilayo Ayodeji Agbato, he built Animal Care Services Konsult Nigeria Limited, with interests in livestock production, feed milling, poultry, veterinary medicines and technical services. With a substantial operating base in Ogere, Animal Care became the town's largest employer, employing indigenes, residents of surrounding communities and people from other parts of Nigeria. His career combined veterinary practice, entrepreneurship and sustained contribution to Ogere's economic development.
Late Pa James Akinwunmi Adekoya (1914 - 1984)
Pa James Akinwunmi Adekoya began his working life as a police constable before moving into business. He established a plumbing enterprise in Kaduna and later founded JASAKINS Electrical, which expanded into a successful business with operations in several Nigerian cities. In his later years, he returned to Ogere and established Itedo-Olu Farming Enterprises Limited. His career represents an early generation of Ogere entrepreneurship spanning skilled trades, electrical commerce and agriculture.
Late Prince Adebajo Abiodun Babington-Ashaye, FCA (1946 - 2012)
Prince Adebajo Abiodun Babington-Ashaye was a chartered accountant and senior professional leader. He served as the 48th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria from 2007 to 2008 and founded Babington Ashaye & Co., an accounting, audit, tax and insolvency practice. He also served as President of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club. A member of the Babington-Ashaye royal family of Ogere, he combined professional accountancy, institutional leadership and community identity in his career.
Elder Gabriel Afolabi Olukayode Bankole
Elder Gabriel Afolabi Olukayode Bankole is a pharmacist and corporate administrator from Ogere. After attending Wesley School, Ogere, and Remo Secondary School, he pursued further studies and pharmaceutical training in the United Kingdom. He subsequently built a long career with May & Baker Nigeria, working across pharmaceutical production, materials control and quality systems. Alongside his professional career, he has remained active in church and community affairs. He also served as President of OCDC (now OCDA), contributing his professional and administrative experience to organised community development in Ogere.
Late Omoba Ibikunle Adeoye Ladejobi (1938 - 2023)
Omoba Ibikunle Adeoye Ladejobi was a chartered accountant who established Kunle Ladejobi & Co. and built a long career in professional accounting and corporate administration. He also served as a court-appointed Administrator Pendente Lite in the estate of Chief T. A. Odutola, a role that was connected to litigation that later reached the Supreme Court of Nigeria. In Ogere, he established the first community library within the Town Hall at the request of the National Association of Ogere Students, contributing directly to educational development in the town.
Late High Chief Albert Olusola Oyegunwa
High Chief Albert Olusola Oyegunwa served as Balogun of Ogere and was a pioneer of the town's hospitality industry. He founded Remo International Social Hotel, also known as Albert Remo International Social Hotel, becoming the first hotelier in Ogere. His enterprise contributed to the development of hospitality and social activity in the town, alongside his responsibilities as a senior traditional chief.
Late High Chief Joseph Adebukonla Kafidiya Osinlaru, JP (1935 - 2008)
High Chief Joseph Adebukonla Kafidiya Osinlaru was an insurance executive, entrepreneur and traditional leader of Ogere. He began his career in the former Federal Ministry of Works before moving into sales and insurance, becoming the first Agency Manager of Milverton Insurance Company Limited. He later established Bukky & Associates and founded Star Insurance Company Limited, serving as Chairman and Managing Director. In recognition of his service to Ogere, he was conferred with the title Ayigaledoye Baba Aro of Ogere in 1985 and elevated to Aro of Ogere III in 1987, serving until 2008. He also contributed to state advisory bodies, church leadership, philanthropy and community development.
Alhaji Sulaiman Balogun, FCA
Alhaji Sulaiman Balogun is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a finance professional from Ogere. His career spans accounting, financial management and corporate administration. Through his professional standing and community engagement, he represents Ogere's contributions to the accounting and financial services profession.
Late Engr Johnson Oyetunde Sokunbi (1941 - 2021)
Engineer Johnson Oyetunde Sokunbi trained in automobile engineering in Germany and gained professional experience in Germany, the United Kingdom and Nigeria. He established Remo Motors Nigeria Limited and developed automotive workshops and engineering consultancy interests in Lagos and Ogun State. He also held professional and community leadership positions, including serving as Aare of Ogere and President of the Nigerian German Association. His career combined technical expertise, enterprise and community service.
Academia, Education, Medicine and Research
Professor (Mrs) Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, FNAL, FCIA
Professor Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole is a scholar of African philosophy, ethics and bioethics. She earned bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan and an international master's degree in Bioethics from a European university consortium. At Olabisi Onabanjo University, she held senior academic and administrative positions including Head of Department, Dean and Deputy Vice-Chancellor. She is the fifth substantive and first female Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.
Late Chief Joel Ogunjimi Osinubi (1916 - 1995)
Chief Joel Ogunjimi Osinubi trained at St Andrew's College, Oyo, and built a long career in education and school administration. He became Headmaster of Christ Anglican Church School, Ogere, in 1946 and later helped establish or lead educational institutions in Sagamu and Iperu. As Chairman of the Ogere Local Government Council from 1957 to 1961, he contributed to town planning and community development. He also helped establish Ositelu Memorial College, wrote historical accounts of Ogere and its church, and composed the Ogere Anthem, "Ilu Mi, Ilu Ogere". He also served as President of OCDC (now OCDA).
Professor Ayodele Olatunji Oyegunle
Professor Ayodele Olatunji Oyegunle is a physician anaesthetist and senior medical academic from Ogere. He served as the pioneer physician anaesthetist and Head of Anaesthesia at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital. He later served as Dean of Clinical Sciences and Provost of the Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences, as well as Faculty Secretary of Anaesthesia at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. His career has contributed significantly to specialist medical training, clinical practice and the development of anaesthesia in Ogun State and Nigeria.
Late Professor Timothy I. Asaye
Professor Timothy I. Asaye was a distinguished agricultural scientist and agronomist from Ogere whose career focused on crop science, soil management and agricultural development. He worked extensively at Moor Plantation, Ibadan, and within agricultural research environments associated with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, contributing to improved crop productivity and agronomic practices in tropical agriculture. Through teaching, research and mentorship, he helped develop successive generations of agricultural professionals. He also served as President of OCDC (now OCDA), extending his academic and administrative experience to organised community development in Ogere.
Dr Olatoye Agbato
Dr Olatoye Agbato is a paediatrician and medical consultant whose career combined specialist clinical practice with senior public service. He served as a Director at the Federal Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, where his responsibilities included health administration and policy. His career reflects distinguished service in paediatrics, medical administration and federal public service.
Late Professor E. Ade Odumuyiwa
Professor E. Ade Odumuyiwa was a distinguished scholar of Religious Studies who built a long academic career at Olabisi Onabanjo University. His scholarship covered Christianity, African Indigenous Churches, religious education, interfaith relations and the role of religion in society. He authored and contributed to academic works in these fields and was honoured by colleagues with a festschrift examining religion, peace and development in Nigeria. Beyond academia, he promoted religious understanding and the constructive role of faith in social development. He also served as President of OCDC (now OCDA), contributing his academic and administrative experience to community leadership in Ogere.
Late Professor Theophilus Oremade Orebamijo (1932 - 2023)
Professor Theophilus Oremade Orebamijo was a distinguished botanist and academic from Ogere. He became the first Professor of Plant Physiology at the University of Lagos and served as Head of the Department of Botany from 1980 to 1984. Born into the Orebamijo family of Odofin Compound, he built a long career in university teaching, research and academic leadership. His work contributed to the development of botanical sciences in Nigeria and placed him among the notable scholars produced by Ogere.
Late Mr I. Olusegun Oyekunle
Mr I. Olusegun Oyekunle was an educationist and pioneer of private education in Ogere. He established Faith Schools, the first private nursery, primary and secondary educational institution in the town, broadening the educational choices available to families. Through the institution, he contributed to local human capacity development, academic discipline, and the expansion of Ogere's educational landscape.
Late Pa Josiah Adekoya Oyegunwa
Pa Josiah Adekoya Oyegunwa was born in Ogere in 1907 and devoted more than five decades to teaching, beginning his career in 1930. He served in schools across southwestern Nigeria, including Christ Church Anglican School in Ogere, and later in schools under the Lagos education system, retiring in 1981. He also contributed to church administration, served on the Ogere Local Town Council and actively participated in the Scout movement. His career spanned an important period in the development of formal education in Nigeria.
Dr Olusesan Ayodeji Sobayo
Dr Olusesan Ayodeji Sobayo is a retired engineer and researcher who earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lagos. Alongside his professional and research interests, he has maintained a strong commitment to Ogere, particularly through support for local security arrangements, community mobilisation and the strengthening of the town's security architecture.
Late Very Revd Sir Frederick Oyenuga Womiloju (1927 - 2017)
The Very Revd Sir Frederick Oyenuga Womiloju combined a long career in education with service in the Methodist Church Nigeria. He was a long-serving member of staff and twice Principal of Wesley College, and also served successfully as Principal of the Methodist Teacher Training College, Sagamu. His contribution to education was complemented by sustained church leadership, for which he was honoured as a Knight of Charles Wesley.
Public Service, Politics, Law and Community Leadership
Late Hon. Prince S. A. Olubukonla Oyeledun
Prince S. A. Olubukonla Oyeledun holds an important place in Ogere's political history as the first member of the Ogun State House of Assembly from the town. He served in the First Legislature of the Second Republic from 1979 to 1983, representing the former Remo Central constituency. His election gave Ogere direct representation in the state legislature during a formative period of civilian governance in Ogun State. He also served as President of OCDC (now OCDA), extending his public service to organised community development in Ogere.
Late Chief Johnson Ademola Sobukanla (1946 - 1996)
Chief Johnson Ademola Sobukanla was a senior public servant who rose to the rank of Director at the Federal Inland Revenue Service. His career centred on federal tax administration and public finance, while his traditional title reflected his standing within Ogere. He also facilitated employment opportunities for many indigenes of Ogere and the wider Remo area, making human-capacity development an important part of his community legacy.
Late Chief Samuel Taiwo Oredein (1913 - 1986)
Chief Samuel Taiwo Oredein was a prominent political organiser and businessman during Nigeria's First Republic. He was a leading figure and National Organising Secretary of the Action Group, working within the political movement associated with Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He also developed substantial business interests and served as Asiwaju of Ogere. His support for church and community development complemented a career that connected national politics, enterprise and traditional leadership.
Surveyor Olusegun Adeniyi
Surveyor Olusegun Adeniyi built his professional career in the Ogun State public service, serving in the Ministry of Surveying and rising to the rank of Deputy Director before retirement. He later became Asiwaju of Ogere, a senior community title through which he continues to participate in the town's leadership and development.
Evangelist Temitayo Ladejobi
Evangelist Temitayo Ladejobi has served as President of the Ogere Community Development Association, formerly the Ogere Community Development Council, since August 2020. In this role, she provides leadership in community coordination, mobilisation and engagement across traditional institutions, associations, residents and development stakeholders. Her tenure forms part of the continuing organised effort to advance community development in Ogere.
Late Chief Samuel Oshinmi Odugbesan
Chief Samuel Oshinmi Odugbesan was a respected traditional leader and community statesman who contributed to the preservation of Ogere's customs, communal values and local governance. He was among the community leaders involved in initiatives that preceded the organised community development structure that later evolved into OCDC and, subsequently, OCDA. His name is also commemorated through the Oshinmi Samuel Odugbesan Shopping Complex in Ogere.
Otunba Ayowole Osinubi
Otunba Ayowole Osinubi was the first elected Executive Chairman of Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State. In that pioneering role, he helped establish local government administrative structures for Ikenne, Iperu, Ilisan, Ogere and Irolu. He has remained involved in community affairs and development initiatives, combining public service experience with ongoing efforts to advance Ogere.
Hon. Olakunle Sobukanla
Hon. Olakunle Sobukanla is an accountant, former corporate financial manager and two-term member of the Ogun State House of Assembly for Ikenne State Constituency, serving from 2019 to 2023 and again from 2023 to 2027 under the All Progressives Congress. Before entering Nigerian public life, he worked in financial management in the United Kingdom. During his legislative service, he has held significant responsibilities in public finance, including serving as Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during the Ninth Assembly.
Late Omoba (Barr.) Isaac Adetunji Osinoiki (1934 - 2026)
Omoba Isaac Adetunji Osinoiki was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple, London, on 17 July 1962 and practised law over a career spanning much of Nigeria's post-independence era. A member of an Ogere royal lineage, he was also a respected elder, legal adviser and community resource whose professional experience supported individuals and institutions. He died on 8 September 2026 at the age of 92.
Omooba (Dr) Sunday Adekunle Nurein Solarin, FCA
Omooba Sunday Adekunle Nurein Solarin is a chartered accountant, lecturer and politician. He studied Management and Accounting at Obafemi Awolowo University and later obtained postgraduate qualifications in Accounting, including a doctorate from Babcock University. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, he has been involved in professional accounting practice, business and university teaching. He has also held leadership positions within the Peoples Democratic Party at local, state and national levels. In Ogere, his contributions include educational support and scholarships for students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Elder Samuel Sodiya
Elder Samuel Sodiya devoted his public-service career to fire and emergency services in Ogun State. He rose through the service to become Director of Fire Services before retiring in 1992. His career contributed to the development of public safety, fire prevention, and emergency response administration in the state.
Late Prince Olumuyiwa Adewunmi Babington-Ashaye
Prince Olumuyiwa Adewunmi Babington-Ashaye was a prominent member of the Babington-Ashaye royal family and was associated with community welfare and development in Ogere. To preserve his memory and contribution to the town, his family established the Prince Olumuyiwa Adewunmi Babington-Ashaye Centre for the Elderly. The centre provides a dedicated facility for the care, comfort and wellbeing of elderly members of the community and stands as an enduring memorial to him.
Religion and Spiritual Leadership
Late Prophet General Dr Josiah Olunowo Ositelu (1900 - 1966)
Born in Ogere, Prophet General Dr Josiah Olunowo Ositelu founded The Church of the Lord (Aladura) and became its first Primate. The church was inaugurated in Ogere in 1930 and subsequently expanded across Nigeria, other parts of Africa and beyond. His ministry became closely associated with revival, prayer, healing and the Tabieorar Festival, which remains an important annual observance of the church. He is one of Ogere's most internationally recognised religious figures.
Late Chief Pa Awomosu Agbato (1899 - 1966)
Chief Pa Awomosu Agbato was an accomplished Ifa priest and traditional medicine practitioner whose work reflected the indigenous spiritual and healing traditions of his generation. He was respected for his knowledge of herbal medicine, divination and traditional counsel, attracting people from within and beyond Remoland. His life and practice remain an important part of Ogere's indigenous spiritual, medicinal and cultural heritage.
Late Primate Gabriel Olusegun Ositelu (1938 - 1998)
Primate Gabriel Olusegun Ositelu was the third Primate of The Church of the Lord (Aladura) Worldwide and the first son of its founder, Prophet General Dr Josiah Olunowo Ositelu. During his seven-year tenure as Primate, he introduced the Victory Night services and formally established the church's youth ministry, now known as the Youth Ministry of the Church of the Lord. His leadership contributed to the continuing growth, organisation and generational development of the church founded in Ogere.
Culture, Heritage and Creative Arts
Late Pa Nasiru Taiwo (Omo Dugbe)
Pa Nasiru Taiwo, widely known as Omo Dugbe, was a leading exponent of Apepe traditional music in Ogere. His performances combined music, proverbs, social commentary and community history, helping to preserve local memory through oral musical tradition. His recorded works documented important civic and traditional events, including the 1983 accession of Oba Oladele Moshood Ogunbade. He remains an important figure in preserving Ogere's indigenous musical heritage.
Sport and International Achievement
David Olatokunbo Alaba
David Alaba is an Austrian international footballer born in Vienna to Prince George Alaba, whose family is from Ogere. He has played at the highest level of European football, notably with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, and has captained the Austria national team. Through the David Alaba Foundation, he has also directly supported Ogere, including the development of a modern sanitation facility at Kara Market. His achievements combine global sporting distinction with a continuing connection to his paternal heritage in Ogere.
