Preparations are intensifying across Ògèrè Rẹ́mọ as the community gets ready to mark the 50th anniversary of Lipakala Day, the annual celebration established in 1976 and sustained across generations as a focal point for heritage, unity and community development.
The 2026 Golden Jubilee is planned as a ten-day programme from Thursday, 8 October to Sunday, 18 October. It brings together residents, Ogere Indigenes at home and in the diaspora, traditional and community institutions, schools, faith communities, young people, artisans, businesses, development partners and friends of the town.
Ten days of community activity
The anniversary programme combines cultural celebration with practical community activities. Scheduled activities include environmental sanitation and sensitisation, interdenominational worship, youth empowerment, the Miss Lipakala pageant, Artisans’ Day, inter-schools activities, traditional displays, a symposium, cultural events, free medical checks, sport and community recreation.
By spreading the programme across several days, the Golden Jubilee provides different groups within the community with opportunities to participate. It also creates space to recognise the institutions, volunteers and generations that have contributed to the continuity of Lipakala Day since its establishment fifty years ago.
Grand Finale and Thanksgiving
The Grand Finale is scheduled for Saturday, 17 October 2026 at Wesley School Playground, Ògèrè Rẹ́mọ, from 10:00 a.m. The programme concludes with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, 18 October.
The Grand Finale is expected to serve as the main gathering point for the anniversary, combining cultural presentation, community recognition and a renewed focus on the town’s development priorities.
Heritage, unity and development
Lipakala Day is more than a commemorative occasion. It provides a recurring platform through which sons and daughters of Ògèrè can reconnect with the town, celebrate cultural identity, strengthen relationships between generations and direct attention towards shared community needs.
The fiftieth anniversary therefore looks both backwards and forwards: backwards to the founders and generations who sustained the celebration, and forwards to the infrastructure, institutions, opportunities and partnerships required for the next phase of Ògèrè Rẹ́mọ’s development.

The 2026 Grand Finale includes the launch of a ₦2.5 billion infrastructure-development fundraising goal. The intention is to connect anniversary participation with clearly identified community development needs. Sponsorship and support enquiries are directed through approved channels so that contributions can be properly acknowledged and reporting can remain connected to authorised community arrangements.
