Diaspora Engagement
Ogere Indigenes live and work across Nigeria and in many countries around the world. Their professional experience, resources, networks, knowledge and continuing attachment to their ancestral home can support community development, knowledge exchange, responsible investment and stronger relationships across generations.
Diaspora engagement is broader than any single organisation. International and domestic hometown associations provide complementary channels through which Ogere Indigenes can remain connected with the town and participate in appropriate community initiatives.
A Global Ògèrè Community
Ògèrè’s wider community extends across Nigeria and around the world. The Ogere Diaspora Development Association (ODDA), the Lagos Forum of Ogere Indigenes, the Ibadan Forum of Ogere Indigenes and other hometown associations each provide channels for connection, welfare, professional networking and development participation.
These organisations play complementary roles alongside the Ológèrè-in-Council, OCDA and other recognised community bodies. Stronger coordination between them can help mobilise knowledge, finance, professional expertise, investment and international connections without treating any single network as superior to the others.
Ògèrè Diaspora Development Association (ODDA)
The Ògèrè Diaspora Development Association (ODDA) was founded on 1 December 2024 as an umbrella association for sons and daughters of Ògèrè Rẹ́mọ living outside Nigeria. Membership extends across the Americas, Europe, Africa outside Nigeria, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania.
ODDA provides an international platform for unity, welfare, connection with the ancestral community and the mobilisation of expertise and partnerships for socioeconomic development. Its role complements, rather than replaces, the roles of domestic hometown associations and other recognised community institutions.
Domestic Diaspora Associations
The Lagos Forum of Ogere Indigenes brings together sons and daughters of Ògèrè living in Lagos. In March 2025 it organised “An Evening with the Ologere of Ogere” with the Ológèrè-in-Council, bringing community leaders and indigenes together around continued participation in the development of the town.
The Ibadan Forum of Ogere Indigenes similarly provides a platform for social connection and continuing engagement. Other hometown associations may exist or develop in locations with significant populations of Ogere Indigenes, providing additional complementary channels of participation.
