Professor (Mrs) Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, FNAL, FCIA
Professor of Philosophy and Bioethics; Vice-Chancellor, Ajayi Crowther UniversityProfessor Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole (Nee Womiloju) is a scholar of African philosophy, ethics and bioethics. She earned bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan and an international master's degree in Bioethics from a European university consortium. At Olabisi Onabanjo University, she held senior academic and administrative positions including Head of Department, Dean and Deputy Vice-Chancellor. She is the fifth substantive and first female Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.
Late Chief Joel Ogunjimi Osinubi (1916 – 1995)
Educationist, School Administrator and Community Development LeaderChief Joel Ogunjimi Osinubi trained at St Andrew's College, Oyo, and built a long career in education and school administration. He became Headmaster of Christ Anglican Church School, Ogere, in 1946 and later helped establish or lead educational institutions in Sagamu and Iperu. As Chairman of the Ogere Local Government Council from 1957 to 1961, he contributed to town planning and community development. He also helped establish Ositelu Memorial College, wrote historical accounts of Ogere and its church, and composed the Ogere Anthem, "Ilu Mi, Ilu Ogere". He also served as President of OCDC (now OCDA).
Professor Ayodele Olatunji Oyegunle
Physician Anaesthetist, Medical Academic and Former ProvostProfessor Ayodele Olatunji Oyegunle is a physician anaesthetist and senior medical academic from Ogere. He served as the pioneer physician anaesthetist and Head of Anaesthesia at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital. He later served as Dean of Clinical Sciences and Provost of the Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences, as well as Faculty Secretary of Anaesthesia at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. His career has contributed significantly to specialist medical training, clinical practice and the development of anaesthesia in Ogun State and Nigeria.
Late Professor Timothy I. Asaye
Agricultural Researcher, Soil Scientist and Community LeaderProfessor Timothy I. Asaye was a distinguished agricultural researcher and soil scientist. He served at the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Moor Plantation, Ibadan, where he rose to the position of Acting Director. His research covered soil classification, soil properties and land-use evaluation, including studies of soils around Ogere and Owode and their agricultural potential. He was also a Professor in the Department of Soil Science at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University. He also served as President of OCDC (now OCDA), contributing his professional and administrative experience to organised community development in Ogere.
Dr Olatoye Agbato
Paediatrician, Medical Consultant and Former Federal Public ServantDr Olatoye Agbato is a paediatrician and medical consultant whose career combined specialist clinical practice with senior public service. He served as a Director at the Federal Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, where his responsibilities included health administration and policy. His career reflects distinguished service in paediatrics, medical administration and federal public service.
Late Professor E. Ade Odumuyiwa
Professor of Religious Studies, Author and Community LeaderProfessor E. Ade Odumuyiwa was a distinguished scholar of Religious Studies who built a long academic career at Olabisi Onabanjo University. His scholarship covered Christianity, African Indigenous Churches, religious education, interfaith relations and the role of religion in society. He authored and contributed to academic works in these fields and was honoured by colleagues with a festschrift examining religion, peace and development in Nigeria. Beyond academia, he promoted religious understanding and the constructive role of faith in social development. He also served as President of OCDC (now OCDA), contributing his academic and administrative experience to community leadership in Ogere.
Late Professor Theophilus Oremade Orebamijo (1932 – 2023)
Professor of Plant Physiology and Former Head of Botany, University of LagosProfessor Theophilus Oremade Orebamijo was a distinguished botanist and academic from Ogere. He became the first Professor of Plant Physiology at the University of Lagos and served as Head of the Department of Botany from 1980 to 1984. Born into the Orebamijo family of Odofin Compound, he built a long career in university teaching, research and academic leadership. His work contributed to the development of botanical sciences in Nigeria and placed him among the notable scholars produced by Ogere.
Late Mr I. Olusegun Oyekunle
Educationist and Founder of Faith Schools, OgereMr I. Olusegun Oyekunle was an educationist and pioneer of private education in Ogere. He established Faith Schools, the first private nursery, primary and secondary educational institution in the town, broadening the educational choices available to families. Through the institution, he contributed to local human capacity development, academic discipline, and the expansion of Ogere's educational landscape.
Late Pa Josiah Adekoya Oyegunwa
Teacher, Church Worker and Community LeaderPa Josiah Adekoya Oyegunwa was born in Ogere in 1907 and devoted more than five decades to teaching, beginning his career in 1930. He served in schools across southwestern Nigeria, including Christ Church Anglican School in Ogere, and later in schools under the Lagos education system, retiring in 1981. He also contributed to church administration, served on the Ogere Local Town Council and actively participated in the Scout movement. His career spanned an important period in the development of formal education in Nigeria.
Dr Olusesan Ayodeji Sobayo
Mechanical Engineer, Petroleum Engineer and Community LeaderDr Olusesan Ayodeji Sobayo is a mechanical and petroleum engineer from Ogere whose career combined advanced engineering research, petroleum development and community service. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos and completed doctoral research on seismic vibrations associated with oil exploration. He joined Shell Petroleum Development Company in 1974 and built a 25-year career in reservoir engineering, including overseas assignments and technical contributions to unitisation, pipeline-sharing and gas-development projects. Following his retirement, he returned as a consultant on development planning for the Nigeria LNG expansion. In Ogere, he has played significant roles in community security, police development and PCRC activities, and served as General Secretary of the first Board of Trustees of OCDA.
Late Very Revd Sir Frederick Oyenuga Womiloju (1927 – 2017)
Educationist, School Administrator and Methodist LeaderThe Very Revd Sir Frederick Oyenuga Womiloju combined a long career in education with service in the Methodist Church Nigeria. He was a long-serving member of staff and twice Principal of Wesley College, and also served successfully as Principal of the Methodist Teacher Training College, Sagamu. His contribution to education was complemented by sustained church leadership, for which he was honoured as a Knight of Charles Wesley.
Late Pa Alfred Olusola Sosimi (1937 – 2026)
Educationist, Magistrate and Community LeaderPa Alfred Olusola Sosimi was an educationist, magistrate and community leader from Ogere. After training at teachers' colleges in Remo and Lagos, he taught at Christ Church School, Ogere; African Bethel School, Sagamu; and later at schools in Lagos, including serving as Head Teacher of Obele Community Primary School, Surulere. He subsequently became a court magistrate and served at the Kosofe Magistrate's Court until he retired from public service. On returning to Ogere, he remained active in community affairs as a prominent member of OCDC and a pioneer member of the Ogere Young Stars Association. He was also politically active from the Action Group era through the Unity Party of Nigeria and was associated with Chief Obafemi Awolowo's political movement.
Chief Mrs Bernice Aduke Orebamjo
Educationist, Hospitality Professional and Community LeaderChief Mrs Bernice Aduke Orebamjo is an educationist, hospitality professional and community leader whose service has spanned teaching, institutional catering, church leadership and community development. After teaching in Ogere, Ijebu-Ode and Lagos, she studied Hotel Catering and Institutional Management in the United Kingdom and later worked in federal hospitality and tourism institutions. Following her return to Ogere, she became the first female President of OCDA and served for ten years. Her tenure included initiatives around Lipakala Day, improvements to Ogere Town Hall, expansion of community merit awards and efforts towards establishing a new community hospital. She also authored a historical account of Christ Anglican Church, Ogere, and has undertaken extensive church, welfare and community service.
