Education & Institutions

Education has been part of Ògèrè’s community development for more than a century. The town’s educational history spans indigenous learning, missionary schools, public primary education, secondary schools and the later growth of private education.

Educational Heritage

Christ Church School in Ogere Remo.
Formal education has a long history in Ògèrè, with mission and community schools forming an important part of the town’s development.

Earlier learning in Ògèrè included practical, vocational and traditional knowledge such as blacksmithing, goldsmithing, crafts and Ifa divination. Formal schooling expanded with missionary activity in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Christ Anglican School was established in 1892 and Wesley School followed in 1900. Local Authority Primary School later served the town, while FOMWAN became part of the public-school landscape. Private education developed further with Faith Nursery and Primary School.

At secondary level, Ositelu Memorial College was established in 1973 and Ògèrè Community High School followed in 1979/80. The growth of additional private schools has continued to widen the educational choices available in the town.

Education Today

Ògèrè now has a broader mix of public and private education than the early historical list alone captures. The Education & Institutions page is intended to grow into a practical community reference covering schools, learning opportunities, educational achievements and institutional contacts without turning the page into an unmaintainable directory.

Schools and educational bodies can submit current public information, photographs and corrections through the website contact route for inclusion in later updates.
