Education and Institutions
Education in Ògèrè Rẹ́mọ has developed through indigenous learning, missionary education, public schools, private schools and faith-based institutions. Before formal schooling, knowledge was transmitted through families, traditional institutions, occupational groups and apprenticeship, including farming, hunting, blacksmithing, goldsmithing, Ifa knowledge, traditional medicine and practical crafts.
Educational Heritage
Earlier learning in Ògèrè included practical, vocational and traditional knowledge such as blacksmithing, goldsmithing, crafts and Ifa divination. Formal education began in the late nineteenth century with Christ Anglican School in 1892, followed by Wesley School in 1900.
The educational landscape later expanded through public primary and secondary schools. FOMWAN Nursery and Primary School expanded public basic education, while the Local Authority Primary School (LA) served the town until it ceased operations. From the 1990s in particular, a growing range of private and faith-based institutions added to the choices available. Faith Nursery and Primary School was an early private-school initiative and the first of its kind in Ògèrè.
Secondary education expanded with the establishment of Ositelu Memorial College in 1973 and Ògèrè Community High School around 1979/1980. Together, these institutions form an important part of the town’s educational heritage.

Vocational & Technical Education
Ògèrè’s industrial and commercial economy creates a continuing need for vocational and technical education alongside conventional academic schooling. Relevant pathways include:
- electrical installation, welding and fabrication, mechanical engineering and maintenance;
- plumbing, building trades and automobile repair;
- ICT and digital skills, tailoring and fashion, catering and hospitality;
- agriculture, agro-processing, packaging and manufacturing;
- renewable energy, entrepreneurship and other industry-relevant occupations.
A structured Ògèrè Skills and Vocational Development Centre could work with local industries to align practical training with employment, apprenticeships, supplier needs and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Education Today
Today, Ògèrè hosts schools serving learners from nursery level through senior secondary education and attracts pupils and students from the town, surrounding communities and beyond. The continuing mix of public, private and faith-based institutions broadens educational choice while creating opportunities for stronger school-community, alumni and industry partnerships.
