Ogere Community Development Association (OCDA)

A town-wide platform for coordinated community development and grassroots participation.

The Ogere Community Development Association (OCDA) is the principal town-wide community development organisation in Ogere Remo. It provides an umbrella platform for progressive bodies, age groups and other civic and social organisations connected with the town, helping to coordinate grassroots participation, collective action and community advancement.

Formerly known as the Ogere Community Development Council (OCDC), the organisation adopted the OCDA name in 2023.

Purpose and Community Mandate

The constitutional mandate combines welfare, unity, participation and development.

The governing constitution, adopted under the former OCDC name, sets out a broad mandate for community welfare, unity and development. In practical terms, OCDA exists to help the community act collectively and to provide an organised platform for development-focused participation.

Promote the general welfare of sons and daughters of Ogere Remo and residents of the community.
Foster unity, cooperation and constructive relationships across the town.
Support economic, educational, cultural, social and infrastructural development.
Mobilise community participation and coordinate development initiatives.
Work with relevant community bodies in organising Lipakala Day.
Remain non-partisan while constructively engaging public leadership and institutions on matters affecting community advancement.

Membership and Community Reach

OCDA connects grassroots participation in Ogere with sons and daughters of the town across Nigeria and the diaspora.

Open Community Membership

Membership is voluntary and open to indigenes of Ogere Remo at home and in the diaspora.

Umbrella Community Role

The constitutional framework recognises progressive bodies, age groups and other non-religious, non-political social organisations within the wider community structure.

Branches and Diaspora

The constitution provides for branches across Nigeria and internationally wherever sons and daughters of Ogere Remo organise collectively.

Governance and Structure

The organisation combines community-wide participation with trusteeship, executive administration and branch structures.

Annual General Meeting

The constitution identifies the AGM as the supreme organ, providing general direction for the Council and its operations.

Board of Trustees

The Board provides broad institutional guidance, supports development roadmaps, resolves internal disputes and acts as custodian of Council property.

Central Executive Council

The Central Executive Council is responsible for day-to-day administration, planning and execution of programmes and projects, and engagement with government and other organisations.

Branches

Local and international branches extend participation and provide a structure for organised engagement by Ogere indigenes outside the town.

Development and Lipakala Day

Community mobilisation and Lipakala Day are central to OCDA’s development role.

OCDA works with the Ológèrè, the Ológèrè-in-Council, community leaders, associations, businesses, government institutions and other stakeholders to promote the development and advancement of Ogere. Its role includes mobilisation, coordination of development initiatives, stakeholder engagement and support for collective community priorities.

OCDA also plays a central role in Lipakala Day, the annual community celebration through which sons and daughters of Ogere are brought together around unity, participation and development. The governing constitution specifically assigns the organisation a role in coordinating the celebration with other relevant community bodies.

Leadership and Partnership

OCDA operates through community leadership, executive administration and partnerships across Ogere and the diaspora.

The current President of OCDA is Evangelist Temitayo Ladejobi. The governing constitution provides for a wider Central Executive Council led by the President and supported by two Vice Presidents, a General Secretary, financial and administrative officers, youth representation and other executive offices.

The constitution records Ogere Town Hall as the registered office of the organisation under its former OCDC name. Authorised public contact details should be maintained through the community’s approved communication channels.
