Preparations for the 50th Lipakala Day Golden Jubilee are advancing as Ògèrè Rẹ́mọ prepares for a landmark celebration bringing together the community, traditional institutions, invited public figures, professional leaders, residents, indigenes in the diaspora and friends of the town.
The Grand Finale is scheduled for Saturday, 17 October 2026 at Wesley School Playground, Ògèrè Rẹ́mọ. The anniversary marks fifty years since Lipakala Day was established in 1976 as an annual civic celebration in remembrance of the town’s founders and as a recurring platform for community unity and development mobilisation.
Invited guests for the Golden Jubilee
Organisers have announced that Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is expected as chief host. Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu are among those expected at the Grand Finale as special guests of honour.
Dr Victor Alonge, immediate past President of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, is expected to chair the occasion. The Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, and the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, are expected as royal fathers of the day.
Heritage, unity and development
The Golden Jubilee combines cultural remembrance with a renewed focus on community development. Lipakala Day has, across five decades, brought together families, age groups, clubs, associations, professional groups, artisans, young people and the diaspora around Ògèrè’s identity and shared responsibilities.
The 2026 anniversary programme extends over ten days and includes cultural, educational, youth, health, sporting, faith-based and community activities. The Grand Finale forms the central gathering point for the anniversary and is intended to recognise the generations and institutions that have sustained the celebration.
₦2.5 billion infrastructure-development goal
A major development focus of the Golden Jubilee is the launch of a ₦2.5 billion infrastructure-development fund for Ògèrè. The initiative is intended to connect the anniversary with identified community priorities and to create a structured route for partnership and support.
The Ológèrè of Ògèrè, Oba James Obafemi Saliu, has described the fiftieth anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate the town’s heritage, honour the sacrifices of its founding generations, recognise contributions to community growth and renew collective commitment to Ògèrè’s future.
A milestone in Ògèrè’s community calendar
The Golden Jubilee is expected to attract participation from Ògèrè sons and daughters at home and abroad, community organisations, traditional leaders, invited guests, businesses, development partners and well-wishers. The anniversary therefore serves both as a celebration of continuity and as a platform for the next phase of community partnership.
